The Belle Meade Plaza Redevelopment SP received unanimous (8-0) approval with conditions from the Metro Planning Commission on March 23, 2023. The SP bill has now advanced to the Metro Council.

On May 2, the bill will be on Second Reading, meaning there will be a public hearing followed by a vote of Council. Should it pass, the SP will then require a final vote on Third Reading at a subsequent council meeting. If it passes, the bill will become law and the BMP site will be eligible for redevelopment according to the details and conditions of the approved SP.

The information below is based on the revised March 2023 submission to the Metro Planning Commission.

The Belle Meade Plaza redevelopment plan will bring community benefits and amenities:

  • A significant 40% reduction in traffic compared to today's conditions on the property

  • Over six acres (over 60%) of project land to be utilized for community green space including daylighting Richland Creek with a pedestrian creek walkway

  • Extensive streetscape improvements focused on the pedestrian

  • Primary parking located sub-grade, complemented by surface parking along retail loop

  • Pursuance of LEED and WELL certifications for the project, which would make Belle Meade Plaza one of the first developments with these certifications in Tennessee
